YouTube finally allowed to scale their mobile application

YouTube is redesigning its apps and introducing new features, including zooming for mobile devices.

YouTube is getting a new design and some new features. For example, it’s finally possible to scale videos in iOS and Android apps. When you remove your fingers, the zoom level of the video is saved. This seems to be a very convenient option for those who need to observe fine details. YouTube started testing this feature with Premium users last August, and it’s rolling out to everyone.

Another feature can help you navigate. On desktop and mobile, you’ll be able to move your cursor up or swipe up to get a series of thumbnails, just like we do on Netflix. As YouTube suggests, this should help, for example, backtracking too far when following a tutorial.

At the visual level, there’s a new background mode that adapts the app’s background color to the color of the video. YouTube UX manager Nate Kechley describes this in a blog post as a subtle effect that uses dynamic color sampling to grab the user’s attention and make them feel better.

And introduces new features, including mobile zoom

Ambient mode will also be available in video playlists. You will be able to enjoy it on web pages and mobile pages when dark mode is enabled. In this regard, dark mode will be even darker in web apps, mobile apps, and smart TV apps.

Otherwise, keep in mind that YouTube links in video descriptions will appear as buttons. The service has also redesigned core activities such as likes, sharing, and downloads to “reduce distractions.”Also, the subscribe button has a new look: it’s shaped like a pill instead of a rectangle, and it’s no longer red. YouTube explains that this more contrasting redesign is to make it more visible.
