YouTube Premium: the family offer will increase in price in the US
YouTube Premium increases the monthly cost of a family subscription to an additional $5, making the offer less profitable for smaller families.
If you’re subscribed to the YouTube Premium Family plan, it’s possible that the price will go up soon. In the United States, affected subscribers received an email informing them that the monthly cost of the service would increase by $5. An increase that clearly makes you cringe.
YouTube Premium increases the monthly cost of a family subscription
Starting in November, US subscribers will start paying $22.99 per month for YouTube Premium, but there seems to be some wiggle room. Indeed, if the main announcement explains that this rate increase starts on the next billing or after November 21st, then some longtime subscribers will not experience this increase for several months. For example, a member of the Engadget team was informed that his rate would not be raised until April due to his status as a “longtime valued member”.
An additional $5, making the offer less of a deal for smaller families.
With this new price list, the family offer becomes less attractive for smaller groups. At the old rate of $17.99, a subscription to this offer was interesting from two users. Now a family of two users will earn only $1 per month. The monthly rate for a single user remains at $11.99 or $6.99 for students. The benefits haven’t changed either: Premium still lets you enjoy YouTube without ads, download videos for offline viewing, access YouTube Music, and play music and videos in the background or with the screen off.
At the very least, you won’t need to subscribe to Premium to watch 4K videos. For France, at least for now, there is no question of such an increase in the price of a family subscription. It is impossible to know if the French will be disturbed and when.
