Protect your packages with dedicated Ring alerts

Protect your packages with dedicated Ring alerts

The ring can protect your parcels from theft. This is thanks to the special function of compatible video intercoms.

With the holidays approaching, you can prevent your packages from being stolen while they are just waiting outside your door. If you have a compatible Ring device, a very interesting feature can help you: Packet Alerts. Last year, Ring implemented these alerts for some video doorbells, starting with Video Doorbell Pro 2 and Video Doorbell (2020). This feature allows users to know when a package has arrived and track it if it is stolen.

To use these bundled notifications, you must first subscribe to Ring Protect, 3.99 euros or 10 euros per month, depending on whether you just want cloud storage for a single device or for a more complete security system. Google Nest offers this feature for free with its latest video intercom, and Arlo’s subscription is comparable to Ring’s.

Another element to consider: Ring, an Amazon-owned company, was too easy to share customer videos with the police. At the same time, the giant has been for some time already allowing you to encrypt videos, store and process them, in particular, locally. Ring also no longer supports the police when they contact customers directly to request recordings. These requests are now made through public messages in the Ring Neighbors app.

If you still want to enable packet alerts on your compatible Ring video intercom, here’s how to do it.

How to enable ring pack alerts

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the menu at the top left, then select Devices.
  3. Select a compatible doorbell (Video Doorbell (2020) or Doorbell Pro 2).
  4. Select Motion Settings, then Smart Alerts.
  5. In the “Package”section, select the video icon.
  6. Set up a pickup area and select the alert icon.
  7. You can adjust the area and sensitivity on this screen.
  8. And so!

When all is well, you can test the feature to make sure you are receiving notifications. If not, follow the steps one by one to make sure you did everything right.
