Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 Laptop Processors with Up to 85% Improved Performance
Recently at the Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm announced the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor for smartphones, and shortly after the announcement, Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus and other brands announced that their phones with the new Snapdragon SoC will be introduced soon. Qualcomm has now announced the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 processors for laptops and Chromebooks, with improvements over its predecessor. Here’s everything you need to know about the newly released processors.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen3
The new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is built for always-on PCs. The chipset is built on a 5nm process and is designed to deliver up to 57% performance improvement and up to 85% faster performance compared to the second generation chipset. It also improves GPU performance by 60%. Qualcomm also claims to support up to 25+ hours on a single charge. In terms of connectivity options, this SoC offers 4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi 6/6E at up to 10Gbps with Snapdragon X65 5G-RF modem system or up to 7.5Gbps with Snapdragon X55 5G-RF modem system. In addition, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 also provides enterprise-grade security with Secure Boot and Microsoft Pluton TPM architecture powered by the Secure Processing Unit (SPU).
Snapdragon 7c+ generation 3
The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 is aimed at entry-level laptops and Chromebooks. It is built on a 6nm process and delivers up to 60% multi-threaded CPU performance and up to 70% GPU performance over the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2. In terms of connectivity, there is support for 5G (sub-6GHz). and mmWave) along with Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF with a peak speed of 3.7Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5 standards.
The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 brings single camera support up to 64MP with 4K HDR capture and screen resolutions up to Full HD+. For storage, the SoC supports eMMC 5.1, PCIe NVMe/SSD, UFS 2.1, and SD 3.0 (SDCC) variants. It is also said to offer a long lasting battery, supports Windows 11.
Laptops and Chromebooks with the new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 processors will launch in 2022.
